Interestingly, it has a story as well. It was definitely a 70's book. As is usual in this type of tell-all chick lit one goes into the read knowing it is going to be over-the-top raunchy as well as out-of-this-world unbelievable but still entertaining. Lots of characters with various situations and interactions. No one has a happy ending, or at least I'm not sure as the story abruptly cuts off. I finished this book within couple of hours. This genre later brought her great success. The novel was banned in Australia and South Africa for its bold sexual content. I read it originally at 13 and just could not put it down! The binding may be slightly damaged but integrity is still intact. Jackie Collins lived in Beverly Hills where she had a front row seat to the lives she so accurately captured in her compulsive plotlines. When Jackie was expelled from school at the age of 15, she threw her uniform and never went back. Jackie was the older sister of Bill Collins but younger than her sister Joan Collins who became an actress. She now resides in a self-designed mansion in Beverly Hills. This one is sort of a guilty pleasure, but it's still a page-turner. .
I remember picking up during a sale in the month of November I remember that because I write dates on the day the book was purchased To be honest, it was never on my reading list but my maid accidentally dropped it from the wrack while cleaning the room. The only thing I don't like is the amount of bad language swear words but I expect the people she bases her characters on do talk in this way. The eighties saw Jackie hitting her stride with the seminal blockbuster, Hollywood Wives, as well as Lucky, Hollywood Husbands, and Rock Star. Pages can include considerable notes-in pen or highlighter-but the notes cannot obscure the text. I have never thought of these novels as deep, they are purely escapism and if they manage to contain a kernel of truth here and there that adds to the enjoyment factor rather than detracts from it.

I have never heard of Jackie Collins before and post reading this book, I realised why. After permanently moving to Los Angeles in 1980s, Collins wrote the first Santangelo novel, Chances 1981 which was based upon the character of the strikingly beautiful Lucky Santangelo. Her seventh novel, The Bitch 1979 was also released during this time.
